New Girl Recap: Bachelorette Party

This week’s episode of New Girl has Jess throwing Cece a surprise bachelorette party and subsequently forcing the guys to do some bonding and spontaneous bachelor party planning for Cece’s fiancé, Shivrang. With all the other crazy plot lines this season, it was easy to put the whole “Cece’s getting married!” thing on the back burner. The writer’s did a fair job bringing us back to the upcoming nuptials, though the episode itself felt a little reach-ey and fell a little flat.

Five things from this week:

1. Dead Dad Pass

This week we got introduced to the concept of the “Dead Dad Pass.” This week’s episode did a pretty good job of going back and acknowledging the death of Nick’s dad and the impact it had and still has on the group, but in true New Girl fashion. Nick used (in a tasteful way, surprisingly!) the passing of his Dad as a veto to get out of certain situations as well as to allow him to act strangely. Think orange jumpsuits, not-so-much tap dancing in the kitchen and getting out of having to take a photo of Shivrang’s penis. What now? Oh, that. Yeah. We’ll get to that.

2. Doctor Sadie is back

New Girl Recap: Bachelorette Party

Dr. Sadie needs to be in more episodes. I wouldn’t say bring her into every episode and make her a regular character or sixth member of the group, but have her pop in more often. Between the jokes and set ups of what being a lesbian gynecologist allows, adding the fact that her timing and comedic presence is spot on, she’s just a gosh-darn delight. She definitely needs to be written in more often.  So does Alfredo.

3. “You were sitting there, eating one basil leaf, like an idiot panda bear!”

Another comment on how this show needs to utilize the talent they have/bring on. Last one, I promise. I actually really like Elizabeth. She seemed annoying and weird in flashbacks but she appears to be pretty cool and really witty present day. In fact, she may just be my favourite past-flame out of all the exes we’ve been introduced to. The fact that she put up with Schmidt for four years just makes me applaud her character more. Let’s bring her around again.

4. I really do like shivrang, seems like a good guy.

That being said, they can’t be together. Nope. Over it. Despite the fact that the actors don’t seem to have any chemistry whatsoever,  it would throw off the whole dynamic of the show if Cece became a wifey. I think I smell a finale cliffhanger coming our way that may or may not include the cancellation of a wedding and I’m willing to bet it directly involves Schmidt.

5. ALL KINDS OF SHENANIGANS!

So many shenanigans this week! From bathroom fires, to cream cheese in bulk , to photos of people’s junk and pin the tail on the Shivrang. Things got a little weird this week. I’m not even mad about it.
